Winter on the farm
Where do we put it all?Winter is the quiet season for us here at Alldredge Orchards.  Curt does much of the pruning on the apple trees this time of year, as it is easy to see the branches and the shape of the tree when the leaves are gone.  While I don't care for the cold weather, Curt swears he loves it, though he will admit that the bitter cold we've had at times was a bit much.  It's been a challenge keeping the chickens warm, and the pipes from freezing, and everything running.  Our "barn cats" have taken up residence on the back porch, and refuse to go out most of the time, and the little dark-eyed juncos moved into the chicken coop.  The snow has been so pretty, but it has made getting out and about quite difficult, as MoDOT doesn't consider our road much of a priority.  Then it starts melting, and everything is muddy, which I really do hate.  I can't keep my floors clean!

Our new puppy, Sabre, continues to grow and learn.  At a little over 5 months old, he's already over 50 lbs.  We do so enjoy having him here, in spite of his tendency to lose his mind about 9 o'clock every evening.  We try to take him on a long walk every day, and it's so much fun.

We hope everyone had a great holiday season, in spite of the weather!  I just keep reminding myself that spring is just around the corner.  I know some people are thinking ahead, as I've begun to start getting calls about school tours for next year, and lots of inquiries about weddings and parties.  I've got my date book ready, so if you know when you want to bring your class out, give me a call or email.  I may not get back to you right away (I don't check messages very often this time of year, bad Kristy), but I will eventually call, I promise!

Here's Sabre at about 3 1/2 months in December...
